Hi friends,
I’ve just received the following message from Tim, our Forum administrator, see below;

As you’ll see, at the moment Tim is left paying 40% of the hosting fees annually out of his own pocket, as well as spending many hours preventing and dealing with spammers, (20 per day!), software glitches and updates. This all takes so much time that he’s seldom able to actually join in and post on here.
We do still talk about chickens, and welcome new members especially those starting out as new poultrykeepers, but nearly all the traffic now takes place ‘socially’ in the Dustbath, between us as a small group of friends. I know I’m not alone in finding this very supportive and valuable, and I feel I know you so well even though I’ve only met three of you (in person, on one day, for a few hours!)
I’d be very sorry if our Forum were to close, but I feel it’s unacceptable for Tim to carry on paying such a large share of the bills, when a comparatively small contribution from each of us regular members would sort things out for another year.
How about those of us who have renewed at £10 and are now listed as full members contribute an extra £5 now, and anyone who forget to renew contributes £15? That should cover Tim’s costs for 2021. And when you put these small sums in the context of a magazine subscription, or even the money we’re all saving by not going to the pub, it may be that most of us might be able to contribute more than this, to give something in hand towards next year’s fees.
What do you think? Here’s the message Tim sent me this morning.

And here’s the link to the Dreamhost site!

TIM’s MESSAGE;

“ End of Year Membership updates
by Poultrykeeper Admin » Thu Dec 16, 2021 1:31 pm
I have gone through the membership for the first time 'demoting' several users who didn't donate towards the running costs this year.

This means they won't have Full Member as their Rank and will see the Google Ads again between posts.

Quite a few people didn't renew over the last couple of years- however, these people haven't visited in a while so they won't notice and we've probably lost them as members. Two people are still regulars to the forum that didn't renew so it might prompt them to renew again :)08

We have 7 Full members and a total of $106.72
By my estimation, this will cover about 60% of the hosting bill this year which is a big help.

I have some software updates to do - but they are major and will involve some hours of downtime. I may get them done over the Christmas break, if not I will have a go in January.

Thanks again for your superb support over the course of the year. The spammers have been a challenge as always. I try to filter them but there are so many. Maybe 20 per day at the moment but it's nice to know we have the eagle eyes watching the posts to catch any that slip through.

Thanks and I wish you a very happy (Covid free!) Christmas,
Tim
xx

Hi Marigold.
Please can you pin your postal so that I can find it again on my computer rather than while I'm on my phone? I was trying to see which board it's on to make it easier to find?

Thanks.

Hi Icemaiden, the main information is in a locked thread called How to become a Full Member in the Welcome and Forum Rules section at the top of the Index page. It has the link to the Dreamhost site on there. Thank you!
