Hi, i’ve Just joined this forum.
Can anyone help with some advice please. Long story short, I have a single gander (Embden) who I like very much and is definitely over 10 years old, my garden backs on to a river and they were there when I moved in, so I adopted them, he was one of five. He has now recently been left on his own, which is not ideal. My dilemma is Should I get other geese to keep him company, or is this a bad idea?

Welcome Mother Goose. I am fairly new and don't know anything about geese, so hopefully someone will respond soon. Sounds like he loves being with you.

Hi mother goose, and welcome from me, too.
I've never kept geese, but I do know they are social birds who like to live in a family group, so I guess your old man must be lonely now his companions have departed. A female or a couple of females would probably be a good idea, but of course it would depend on whether you want to go on keeping geese for the foreseeable future. Maybe try local rescues? Geese are quite often found in rescues and are hard to rehome, so your setup sounds as if it might be ideal.

Hi! Welcome :) I agree with Marigold, he would definitely like some company and now is a good time of year to introduce another goose. I also agree that a rescue would be perfect. If you get more than one then get ladies, if you get just one then it doesn't matter if its male or female. Breed isn't an issue either really. They can live up to 30-35 years so keep that in mind when you decide. Does he have any other waterfowl for company?

I'm not sure where Bristol is (South West), but saw these websites with breeders:

Thanks everyone for your replies, that’s really helpful.
I have decided to try to get him some company as he is a pleasure to keep. I have seen a pair of mallards around but they generally tend to give him a wide berth!
The website links are great.
Will update on my progress and thanks very much again for all your help, much appreciated ?
