All my birds were sold some time ago once I decided I was moving, and now the house sale is agreed I am selling off everything which has been amassed here over the years. My family have lived here since the 1950's so you can imagine how much there is to go So there will be a house contents/farm sale here on Sat 23 Nov

A lot of the garden and farming equipment will just be sold on the day in ring 2 but some pieces have been included in the catalogue and if they have you can bid online.

Take a look at the catalogue and do feel free to pass on the link to anyone else you know who may be interested in fact it would be really helpful if you could circulate it a bit I dont want a sale with no one here :shock: .

They are lots of fascinating things - I doubt there will be too many more sales like this held in the future.

I'm so sorry to hear you're selling up, it must be heartbreaking to leave a place which has meant such a lot to your family for so long. As you say, the catalogue is indeed full of wonders. I hope it all goes well for you - I'm sure everyone will be wishing you success and happiness in whatever will come next.
Will you be having any chickens at all in your new home? After all the success you've had with your birds, it must seem very strange and quiet without them.

Well therein lies a story - I was worried about getting the right sort of place to move into after living here and the upshot is I have decided to travel. So everything here will be sold bar a few pots and pans which I intend to load into some sort of motorhome and together with Phoebe my great dane I am going to do a tour of the uk and if all goes well then we shall cross the channel and have a good look round europe

All the years I have been here I have been so busy running my business keeping animals and birds gardening and entertaining that the one thing I never had time for was travel. So now the intention is to make up for lost time before it is too late 17

Hi DBE. Great catalogue and I think some of the estimates are a bit low, but I'm no expert.

You may find travelling with a motorhome in the UK a bit of a pain with finding suitable places to park overnight. However in France many villages have motorhome parks which are free to use all year, certainly in the tourist areas. The Autoroute parking (Aires) is free and unlimited and the ones on the toll roads are very well equipped. The French don't go abroad much as they don't need to, everything is in their own Country. Many have motorhomes which they cruise around in over Summer. Most of the tourists in Dordogne were French. Buy a European mainland made motorhome so you can get it repaired easily. The infrastructure for vehicle repairs here isn't set up for many foreign makes.

They are mainly agricultural auctioneers, but they were the only ones locally who were prepared to do it onsite, and with the quantity of things here I couldnt face getting it all packed and transported, so really they dont have much of a clue about what it is they are actually selling :shock:

For example - For years I have had a couple of nice early chinese imperial silk panels and they wanted to put them in a bag of linen!!!

Worn out as I was even I blenched at that and took them out and stuck them on ebay with a starting bid of £50 next morning an email from china would I stop the auction for £300!!!!

I know I won't get what the things are worth at this auction, but at least it will all be gone and I can look to the future, otherwise I would just be here for the next 5 years selling it all on ebay!!!!

If anyone does those facebook thingies perhaps they could post something there for me - I am a bit long in the tooth to have got going with that sort of thing 07

I've already passed the link on to my sister-in-law who is only 20 minutes from you. She wants to buy a farm really, rather than equipment. Renting at the moment and their budget is tight. I suggested just going, buying and then selling the stuff later, if they don't need it. They are on Facebook with loads of relevant contacts, so perhaps they will spread the word if they don't go themselves. Too good an opportunity to miss I think and I would be there with cash and my trailer if I could get over economically.

As you say, putting it on ebay will take ages with photographing, listing, the auction time and then postage, even though you could perhaps double your money. We were faced with the same dilemma to a tiny degree. In the end we moved most of it, as we can sell it from here.

I think they may have done a list of the uncatalogued farm type stuff I will see if I can get hold of it and post it up somewhere. There are lots of farm gates troughs hurdles etc

Sounds right up the sister-in-law's street -and ours. Would love a chickeny chat DBE. Loads of flat space to park here as well as I cleared it all. Fancy chicken keeping here is on a much larger scale than I could have imagined. Spoke yesterday to someone nearby with 400 birds -breeding all colours of Orpington and Silkies. Also has Blue and Gold Laced Wyandottes. No problem sourcing Buff Orpingtons either. Saw a great example with a few hybrid hens in a garden. Apparently a local show breeder sells his surplus cockerels in the local market. Most are eaten by the purchasers but some kept. He is an even bigger setup with far more than 400 birds. Showing is on a grand scale as well -all birds must be vet inspected, certified fit and officially tagged before entry. Normal routine is birds are penned early on Thursday and judged on Friday -all day, no public. Then the show is opened to the public Saturday and Sunday. The birds are fed, watered and cleaned by the organisers for the 4 day duration. One breed in very short supply appears to be Cream Legbars. When we buy a place we will get some more. TNN's don't exist -we perhaps have the only ones in France. The French like fluffy and pretty and to them TNN's are grotesque (I think they are very pretty). Our landlord has a small flock of Pedigree Black Gasconnes -used to have 76 free ranging around the gardens!

Probably the chicken fancy is like it was here a few years ago with plenty of dedicated breeders.

I wonder if I could get a cage to hang at the back of the van, like the old gypsy wagons used to have.... no must stop thinking about that :lol: :lol: :lol:

Really hope you successfully sell everything and so can get off on your exciting travels! lots of interesting stuff for sale there, have told hubby who is after some decent farm gates!

Many thanks for the good wishes I would love to see your choocks if I am around the Bristol area, though I think it will take me a while before I am brave enough to tackle Bristol in a motorhome. I always found it stressful enough in a car

When mum moved in with me in 1995 I took her down to John Lewis - then in the centre as she wanted lots of bits for her cottage here and the internet wasnt really going in the uk then.

Anyway it was a nightmare getting close enough for her as an elderly disabled lady, and I walked her over into the store having parked on double yellows using her blue disablity badge, and when I got back THE CAR HAD BEEN TOWED AWAY

We had to get a taxi way out of town to the compound, together with all the duvets lights and bedding she had bought before I could get back to her, then they charged us £110 and we had to pay in CASH

I swore at the time (amongst other things) that I would never go back to Bristol again 07 07 07

With luck DBE the low estimates will attract lots of bidders - then the prices go up. I loved what I saw of your setup when I collected my birds last year and wish you all the best with your plans.

One of the biggest problems in the UK when driving a motor-home is the height restriction on lots of car parks. For overnight accommodation it might be worth joining the Caravan Club as they have lots of "Certificated locations" which are restricted to just 5 vans. Facilities can be very restricted but at least you're parked legally. Also be aware that lots of sites close in January and February.
