How are you all following storm Babet? I hope you & your flocks are all safe & sound? Lady A & Hen-Gen have been in my thoughts especially...

Very kind Icemaiden but we got off light in the far north. Up to 40mph winds and neglible rain. No weather for dawdling around outside but not anywhere like the weather they had in Aberdeen. I’m currently minding three rams for a neighbour recently bought down south. I’ve a surplus of grass and a bit of shelter. They spend most of the time sheltering behind my hen house. How cold is it in Chipping Norton? (where they came from).

It's apparently 9°C in Chipping Norton at the moment, down from 14°C earlier. They've not had much wind though.

I've an ex-batt called Margot, named after Margot Fonteyn, as she'd only put one leg on the ground at a time when I rehomed her, as the floor was cold! I'm sure your rams will settle in & get less nesh after a few weeks...

I'm rarely on the forum these days, but just stuck my head in for a look!
Storm Babet, thankfully, I only caught the edge of it. We had a lot of rain, but in my area, no flooding thankfully. Some places not too far further west of me caught it really badly, with rivers bursting their banks, and flooding entire towns. I saw videos of the town of Middleton, Co. Cork with cars being washed away down the street, and people wading through water up to their hips.
Today, we have an Orange warning for rainfall, and they weren't kidding! There's minor flooding in several spots in town and a couple of areas on the way home where there was surface water on the road. Unusually for here, there's not a breath of wind, which certainly makes things easier!

Thankfully we missed it as well, didn't even have overmuch rain. My friend in Suffolk who luckily lives on a farm at the top of the hill suddenly found she lived in a moated property as the lanes around her flooded, and cars that tried to get through were abandoned and just floated and bobbed about, as the water receded they mostly ended up nose down in the ditches. her wheelie bin by the lane floated away and was returned today, people worked out it was hers, because of the Waitrose bag, they said

Love it ? One of the benefits of being able to afford to shop at Waitrose! (I confess to going occasionally, as their tinned mushroom soup is nicer than anyone else's. )

Castleton in Derbyshire is where I lived before moving up here. Clips on YouTube are now showing how bad the floods were there. I can only feel sorry for all the people who have lost all their furniture and houses inundated with mud. We as a society really have to face up to the effects of global warming.

Castleton is a lovely place Hen-Gen. The flooding is truly horrible.

A man in Retford was showing his flooded home, they had been at the hospital with their 18 year old daughter who has terminal cancer and wishes to die at home, returned home to find the house totally uninhabitable. All the specialist equipment for her in the house ruined.
Heartbreaking
